Which Genie Models This Applies To

Genie has used two main roller configurations across its residential opener systems: the standard 2-inch stem roller found on most Genie chain-drive and belt-drive doors from 1995 onward, and the narrower 1.75-inch stem used on some pre-1995 screw-drive installations. The roller itself is not an electronic component, but it mates to the Genie door section and track geometry, so the stem length and wheel diameter must match.

To identify yours, check the roller stem where it inserts into the door bracket. A 2-inch stem with a 7/8-inch or 1-inch nylon wheel is standard on current Genie ReliaG, ChainLift, and SilentMax series doors. The model label on the opener rail or power head will read something like 1035, 2055, or 3055. We carry OEM-equivalent sealed-bearing nylon rollers and heavy-duty steel rollers with ball bearings. For most Van Nuys homes, the sealed nylon runs quieter and lasts longer in the dry, dusty conditions we get near the Sepulveda Basin. Steel rollers handle heavier doors but need lubrication twice yearly. We match the part to your door weight and your preference, not just the brand name.

Signs Your Genie Roller Replacement Is Failing

• The door shakes or vibrates as it moves. Worn roller bearings develop flat spots or lose lubrication, so the wheel no longer rolls smoothly against the track. The door lurches instead of gliding.
• You hear grinding or squealing from the track area. Nylon rollers eventually wear through to the metal core, or steel rollers rust in the bearing race. The noise is metal on metal, and it will get worse.
• The door binds or stalls at a certain point. A roller with a bent stem or seized bearing drags against the track, creating resistance the opener strains to overcome. This stresses the Genie motor and can trip the force sensor.
• A roller has popped out of the track. The stem wears or the bracket hole elongates, letting the roller tilt and escape the track groove. The door hangs crooked and may not close fully.
• The door feels heavier to lift manually. Failed bearings turn the roller into a sliding block instead of a wheel. Friction multiplies, and the spring system was never sized for that load.
